Downer is a leading manufacturer and supplier of bitumen-based products. We operate a network of strategically located bitumen facilities, supported by our in-house transport fleet to meet the needs of our customers across Australia.

Our range of bitumen-based products includes blended bitumen and emulsions suitable for use on roads, airports and motor racing tracks. We also deliver services in spray sealing and pavement preservation, including microsurfacing and rejuvenation.

Downer’s range of bituminous products includes:

  • Bitumen emulsions
  • Multibond SS: Speciality blended emulsion for the maintenance of sealed roads
  • EcoPrime: Improved environmental performance compared to traditional cutback primes
  • Emulsion Precoat
  • EcoGrip: High binder content emulsion for sealing applications
  • BridgeBond: Polymer modified bitumen emulsion for use with concrete surfaces
  • AeroBond: Trackless emulsion tack coat for high performance areas such as airfields
  • HaulPac: Cost-efficient solution for unsealed local roads and construction haul roads.

Bituminous services

Spray sealing

Our spray sealing services include seal design, priming, and single and multilayer seal coat application.

In addition to typical spray seal treatments, other viable solutions include emulsion seals, crumb rubber seals, geofabric reinforced seals (GRS), and polymer modified seals such as stress/strain alleviating membrane interface (SAMI), high strength seals (HSS) and extra strength two coat (XSS) seals.

Graded aggregate seals are a very cost-effective way of sealing low volume roads and delivering a greater design life.

Microsurfacing

Microsurfacing is one of Downer’s key pavement preservation capabilities. Microsurfacing provides pavement shape correction and a quiet and smooth riding surface with similar aesthetics to asphalt. It is applied at ambient temperature, reducing carbon emissions and allowing a rapid return to normal traffic flows. As a further benefit, reflective pavement cracking can be reduced by up to 30% through the use of fibre-reinforced microsurfacing.

Pavement preservation

Downer’s pavement preservation services aim to prolong the life of our customers’ assets for longer.

Our range includes:

  • RejuveneX Rejuvenator, which extends the life of aged and oxidised asphalt pavements that are structurally sound
  • PreserveX Preservation treatment, which is designed to extend the life of road pavements by sealing and protecting the road from water penetration.
