Dean is a Graduate Electrical Engineer, employed through Downer’s Graduate Program and working on the HCMT Project to provide new high capacity metro trains to the people of Melbourne.

The Downer Graduate Program offers the opportunity to define your own experience within the Program.

Speaking of his experience, Dean explains that is what drew him to the Downer Graduate Program.

“The diversity of opportunity available was like no other. I had the chance to rotate through four different roles,” he said.

We asked Dean what a usual day at work looks like for him? Dean said: “Being an engineer in such a big and dynamic project like HCMT means that each day provides new experiences. My days involve testing train systems, engaging with stakeholders within the project and keeping the engineering design documents up to date”.

Dean said that the most rewarding experience of the Downer Graduate Program was the opportunity he had to live and work abroad in China.

“It was amazing to live and work in a totally different culture and working environment for four months. Living through northern Chinese winter and minus 30 degrees was very different for someone coming from Sydney!”

Dean’s advice for anyone interested in the Downer Graduate Program is to “Be yourself. Downer is a diverse company and the Graduate Program is fantastic because you can really tailor your journey to suit yourself.”
