Every day, Downer teams help keep the District moving by delivering essential water, energy, telco, facilities management and transport services that support homes, businesses and visitors alike. We maintain critical infrastructure and respond to extreme weather events when communities need us most.
What makes the difference is our local knowledge. Our people understand the challenges and opportunities of the town because they’re part of it. They’re raising families here, supporting local organisations, and taking pride in enabling their community to thrive.

From maintaining water, wastewater networks and treatment plants and stormwater infrastructure and assets, to supporting telecommunications and energy networks, our local teams work around the clock to ensure our community has the essential services they rely on to live their everyday lives.
Our Roading team ensures the local roading network remains reliable and safe for commuters, through our Central Waikato Integrated Delivery Contract for NZ Transport Agency (NZTA).
We deliver the day-to-day management, maintenance, renewals coordination, and operational response for the State Highway network from Tirau to Waiouru.
When wet weather events hit, we are described as the fourth emergency service, delivering safe emergency response activities to ensure our community can stay connected.

Our Justice & Corrections team plays a key role in keeping a local correctional facility operating safely and efficiently through the delivery of facilities management services.
This includes planned and reactive maintenance, asset management, grounds maintenance, cleaning, and specialist building services to support the prison’s day-to-day operations.
Downer volunteers recently joined Greening Taupō to help restore a local planting site. Team members spent the day mulching around young native trees, removing weeds and supporting ongoing restoration efforts that will help the area thrive for years to come.
Greening Taupō plays an important role in enhancing biodiversity throughout the region, coordinating community-led planting, weeding and restoration projects.
Our people love opportunities to give back to the community while helping to protect and enhance the local environment.

Attracting the next generation of talent is critical to the future of New Zealand’s infrastructure industry. Through our involvement in Taupō Girls with Hi-Vis events, local careers expos, and hands-on presentations at primary schools, Downer is helping young people discover the diverse and rewarding careers available across the water, transport and energy sectors.
By providing real-world experiences, showcasing career pathways, and inspiring curiosity from an early age, we are helping to build a sustainable pipeline of local talent and encouraging the next generation to play a role in shaping and supporting their communities.
