Downer offers whole-of-life capability across rail assets from design development, value engineering, construction delivery, testing and commissioning, operations, and maintenance of the rail network across New Zealand.
In New Zealand our rail services include delivery of deliver large metro projects (including rail depots and stations), track works, civil construction and repair, overhead line equipment (OLE) and traction power, re-signalling, level crossing upgrades, and structure renewals and upgrades. We have an in-house team of specialist rail protection staff and we also operate under a KiwiRail framework agreement to deliver ad-hoc maintenance works in the South Island.
Our digital engineering specialists support our rail customers and project teams to digitise and optimise rail infrastructure delivery. We are firm believers in the benefits that can be gained from the collaboration and cultural changes digital engineering tools can create and build in before we mobilise. Our vast array of digital tools and digital engineering use cases is changing the way we deliver projects—from real time as-built modelling, 3D design integration and 4D visual construction sequencing, asset data capture and integration, to reality capture and mobile mapping.
Downer has strong relationships with KiwiRail, and its predecessors, with a 90-year history on the New Zealand rail network. Along with KiwiRail we also undertake works with other key rail clients such as Auckland Transport, Greater Wellington Regional Council and City Rail Link Limited.
