Downer Case Study
City Rail Link Project WOL Case Study – Tāmaki Makaurau
24/03/2023
Project
As Aotearoa’s largest single transport infrastructure project, the City Rail Link (CRL) will transform how people move around Tāmaki Makaurau, our biggest city and commerce hub. CRL will enhance the commuter experience by increasing the number of available trains per hour and capacity to move larger volumes of people around the city faster and more often.
New 3.45 km twin track rail tunnels sitting up to 42 metres below the CBD’s street level will transform Britomart into a two-way station, connecting with a redeveloped Maungawahu/Mouth Eden Station on the Western Line.
Two new underground stations at Te Waihorotiu (Aotea) and Karanga-a-Hape are being constructed, and one above-ground station at Maungawhau is undergoing considerable redevelopment.
Metro-rail maintenance
Downer NZ is part of an alliance among seven companies and the customer, who are collectively delivering the main stations and tunnels and rail infrastructure for the CRL project. Once the CRL is up and running, Downer Facilities and Asset Services business will deliver the ongoing maintenance for the new stations and the existing Britomart Station.
Taking the Downer Whole-Of-Life (WOL) approach, the project scope includes a contract to provide maintenance services for 30 years post construction completion. As the Asset and Facilities manager, Downer is responsible for maintaining the stations and new infrastructure for Auckland Transport including:
• Asset management
• Hard maintenance services (reactive, planned and replacement)
• Soft Services cleaning and pest control
