Supply to Downer
What are my prequalification requirements to work with Downer as a subcontractor?
To work with Downer, our subcontractors must be prequalified, this applies to all our businesses in New Zealand including Spotless and Hawkins.
We do this to provide you with consistency when working with our business, regardless of where you work in the country, the contract you work on or who you work with. It also is an opportunity to ensure our safety protocols are aligned and we understand any commercial risk for you and us.
In order to obtain your prequalification with Downer, we offer up alternatives as below:
- TÅtika – register and either load certification (ISO 45001, Safe+, Qsafe) or prequalify with one of their approved partners. Go to chasnz.org/totika
- Sitewise – sitewise.co.nz
Occasionally contracts may have additional or alternative contract-specific prequalification requirements, your Downer contact will advise you if this is the case.
To comply with Downer prequalification requirements, your company must achieve a completed assessment with the above providers.
Once your company has prequalified, our subcontractor prequalification team will update our national subcontractor register with this information. This system is used to identify which subcontractors we are able to engage on a contract.
I will be registering through Totika – what should I know?
You can register through Totika for free.
By registering you will be able to find your supplier category and understand the accepted assessments and certifications. You will also be able to upload any key documents.
Totika is a recognition framework and is not a prequalification provider however via the prequalification member schemes/providers that are featured on their site, you will have options of which prequalification provider that aligns appropriately with your business.
You will work with that prequalification provider that you have chosen to obtain all necessary health and safety requirements to prequalify. All contact through the entire prequalification process will be with your chosen provider.
Once the health and safety standards have been met by the prequalification scheme and they meet the Totika Core Criteria then your status with Totika would be “Performing” and it would be a recognised prequalification in our subcontractor Register.
What insurances do I require when working with Downer as a subcontractor?

The standard insurance types are as follows:
- Public liability
- Motor vehicle (showing the value of the third-party liability cover)
