Our team of 500 works across New Zealand to provide sustainability through planning, programming and the end-to-end delivery of scheduled, reactive, and preventative maintenance programmes.

Working with some of New Zealand’s largest asset owners: We work with some of the biggest energy providers in New Zealand including Powerco, Transpower, Wellington Electricity, and Vector. Our work for these entities covers most of New Zealand. We provide a range of services which include:

Renewable energy specialists: Downer is committed to being stewards of New Zealand’s future by reducing carbon emmissions, particularly through providing renewable energy. We are one of New Zealand’s largest and most experienced providers in the renewable energy market and power systems sectors.

We offer trusted services and integrated solutions required for the entire asset lifecycle including design, build (SCADA and communications), maintenance, commissioning, and operation. We do this for a range of renewable assets specifically in the wind, solar and power systems storage sectors, including transmission and substations. We hold contracts and provide services for major clients such as Genesis, Mercury, and currently maintain three windfarms in the Wairarapa, Tararua and Manawatu regions. We also have the added benefits of leveraging expertise from our Australian business.

Streetlight installation and maintenance: We are a leading streetlight installation and maintenance contract or supporting power and road authorities and municipalities across New Zealand. We pride ourselves on our responsiveness, efficiency and reliability. We have skilled and committed people, effective systems, and advanced data and collaboration tools.

We have enhanced data capturing and reporting capabilities. We work with our clients before and during the contracts to ascertain the desired data level and scope. This enables us to tailor our systems to capture and provide the necessary data accurately.

We look after over 30,000 streetlights through our contracts with Auckland Transport, Hamilton City Council and the Waikato District Council. We focus on reliability, visibility, night-time colour recognition, low power consumption, and minimal maintenance requirements.

Project design, estimating, and project management: We have graduate engineers, designers, and project managers who provide collaborative and effective concept designs, estimates, approvals, and project management for work like the Turitea Windfarm in Palmerston North. We performed a windfarm balance of plant design and installation which included an indoor/outdoor 33/220KV substation, 33KV collector cables, earthing, SCADA, communications testing, and commissioning.

We have a range of in-house software applications such as Downer Survey for pole safe loading applications, vehicle inspections, safety audits and near miss reporting (online and in real time). This information all adds to the development of safe working method statements and online training programmes.
