Our Capabilities 

Planning and Design

Our in-house process and automation engineers add real value during the planning and design stages through their involvement in the following activities:

  • Value engineering
  • Scoping and site investigations 
  • Preparation of technical drawings and specifications
  • Process (including control), hydraulic, electrical, plc, RTU, HMI and SCADA platform design as well as temporary works design
  • Telemetry radio, cellular and Back Haul communication networks
  • Facilitating HAZOP studies and Safety in Design reviews
  • Digital engineering and modelling 
  • Network performance assessment, modelling and management
  • Asset Management.

For complex designs, our design managers and mature management systems bring rigor to the design process ensuring that quality checks are carried out throughout the process.

Build Projects

Our in-house project and planning engineers provide engineering support to our construction and project teams and are typically seconded onto major projects for the duration of the project or during key stages such as commissioning. They perform the following activities:

  • Preparation of management plans, methodology and work programmes
  • Site set-out and as built information
  • Preparing inspection and testing plans and associated quality control documentation
  • Construction monitoring, commissioning and tests on completion for all instrumentation, controls and automation.

Operations, Maintenance and Renewals

Our in-house process, mechanical and network engineers provide engineering support to our network and treatment plant field operations and maintenance teams through their involvement in the following activities:

  • Investigation and resolution of network issues using modelling and a range of technology solutions such as the SL RAT, CCTV, Pole cam, E-pulse, and others
  • Network and treatment plant maintenance management plans using reliability centred maintenance principles
  • Plant optimisation and performance
  • Plant PLC, network RTU, SCADA and telemetry maintenance and upgrades 
  • SCADA Improvements Project
  • Preparing O&M manuals, water safety plans and other quality documentation and audits.
  • Condition / operational assessments - to inform if asset retention is viable for system upgrades, meeting compliance / consent conditions.

We also assist in the delivery of minor capital works and annual pipe renewal programmes.

Operational Technology and Business Systems

Our in-house Solutions Architect, Software and App developers provide systems support across the Downer business through their involvement in the following activities:

  • System engineering and architecture
  • App development using Microsoft tools 
  • Power BI project reports and dashboards 
  • Data analytics using our in-house Water DNA application
  • AI camera technology, IoT field devices, networks, and cloud platforms.
