For 75 years we have delivered great results for our clients, and the projects we complete, help build our communities.
Every great space starts with a vision. Hawkins help make that vision a reality. By working with the client, the architect, our consultants and our subcontractors, Hawkins bring those ideas to life. Hawkins do this by building lasting relationships. As a business, we always aim to exceed expectations. We challenge ourselves to find better ways of doing things and create new solutions and innovations.
Hawkins celebrates 75 years of building with pride in Aotearoa. Together, we create spaces where people learn, where they work, where they live, where they play, and where they heal. We’re New Zealand’s leading construction team.
Hawkins are proud of the legacy of our projects and as time passed, these iconic buildings are sitting proudly against the backdrop of New Zealand cities and local communities. Add to that the attributes of a company culture that has stood the test of time: the emphasis on relationships, fairness, health, safety and sustainability, and importance on having fun, and you have the blueprint for Hawkins and perhaps the reason behind the company’s loyal base. We’re all about delivering great projects, together.
Ko Hawkins mātou. We are Hawkins.
Hawkins is well versed in leading early collaborative working arrangements on our projects. Working in partnership with clients, designers, stakeholders, subcontractors and suppliers is a preferred mode of operation for us. Our ability to get involved early on an Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) / Preconstruction basis will ensure your project is delivered on time and within your budget. This is because, due to our experienced in-house resources and industry knowledge, we can determine cost certainty early in the development process.
Due to our strong relationships with consultants all over New Zealand, we can form and manage a team of architects and engineers to best suit your project. This approach, like ECI, allows us to save time and money by having the construction and design coordinated and managed efficiently fromt the outset.
Hawkins has industry-leading capability in the use of BIM tools and processes, including 3D coordination, clash/deficiency detection, visualisation, 4D planning and 5D quantification. BIM/ Virtual Design & Construction has been executed on a number of projects over recent years, such as airports, hospitals, education facilities and commercial building projects – allowing us to identify risks early and mitigate them before we even get onto site.
Hawkins is committed to working collaboratively to ensure that we support broader social, economic, environmental and cultural outcomes through our projects, nationally and regionally. We believe that supporting those at a disadvantage into work, training, and careers builds intergenerational prosperity and success, helping to alleviate the inequity which exists in our communities and society. We work with and across all levels, including national and local government, the Construction Sector Accord, with iwi and hapu, community, our clients, staff, and supply chain – to develop, evolve, achieve and measure these outcomes.
Downer and Hawkins have been helping to shape New Zealand for over a century. It’s this heritage that uniquely identifies our 12,000 employees as kaitiaki (stewards) of the communities and ecosystems around us. Hawkins, through Downer, joined the Climate Leaders Coalition in 2018 and aims to promote business leadership and collective action on the issue of climate change. As a business, we have also set an emission reduction target in 2019, “Downer commits to the decarbonisation of its absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 45-50 per cent by 2035 from a FY18 base year and being net zero in the second half of this century”.
BIM, engineering, commercial, health and safety - We maximise all phases of the project – from preconstruction through to delivery and commissioning – protecting people and mitigating impacts on day-to-day business. When given the opportunity, we seek to develop solutions that add value through the life-cycle of your asset, not just during the build phase.
At Hawkins, we recognise that urgent action is needed as suicide numbers in New Zealand have climbed to the highest since records began over ten years ago; with construction workers five times more likely to die from suicide than an accident at work. As a result, we are proud to be a premium sponsor of MATES in Construction, which is all about looking after each other and preventing suicide in the construction industry. We have a number of accredited sites across the country and are continually looking to build and strengthen our comminuites in the workplace and across the industry.
