Water Tanker Filling Stations
Client: Tasman District Council
Duration: 2023
Background
Under the Taumata Arowai Drinking Water Quality Assurance Rules, access to the water network through a standpipe is no longer allowed (unless by Emergency Services). Therefore dedicated filling stations are required.
Delivery Solution
To enable compliance with the new rules, Downer’s Water Engineering Solutions team designed and built two tanker filling stations for the Tasman District Council. The stations were built off site and then lifted into place.
This process minimised the amount of time we needed to spend at site, which reduced disruption to traffic and the public.
To enable Tasman District Council full access to information on water usage, users access the water with radio frequency identification tags. The quantity of water is recorded with a magnetic flow meter and displayed on a digital readout on site and sent to the Council’s billing system through a third party.
Outcome
Our team created a purpose-built solution to a change of regulations which also provides better water security and transparency for the users and the Council. Water safety has been protected through a residual pressure zone backflow preventer and a security cage (which can be removed for maintenance).
